    Compressible Navier-Stokes In continuum mechanics the dynamics of fluids (liquids and gases) is modeled by balance laws for mass, linear momentum and energy. The most relevant case of a Newtonian fluid is characterized by a stress-tensor that depends linearly on the velocity gradient and pressure and a heat flux that is related to the temperature according to Fourier's law of heat conduction. The momentum equations and sometimes the full set of equations describing the dynamics of a Newtonian fluid are called the Navier-Stokes equations. Here, we consider the case of a compressible gas that has to be distinguished carefully from the model for an incompressible fluid.
